Portuguese scientist Elvira Fortunato distinguished with female leadership award

The portuguese scientist Elvira Fortunato, who invented the paper transistor, was distinguished with the Female Leadership Award in Portugal, according to Nova Universidade de Lisbon (UNL), where she is vice-rector.

Elvira Fortunato receives the distinction in the scope of the Global Women’s Summit, an initiative of the North American organisation The GlobeWomen Research and Education Institute that this year takes place in Lisbon until Saturday.

The initiative aims to distinguish women around the world who stand out in various areas of activity, UNL said in a statement, adding that in Portugal, the distinction went to Elvira Fortunato in recognition of her pioneering work in the area of paper electronics.

For the researcher, who directs Cenimat – Centre for Materials Research, Portugal’s Women’s Leadership Award is also a way to promote gender equality, which has been a strong investment in the university.
