Government will recruit 10 doctors for the Setúbal hospital and carry out expansion works

The Government will recruit 10 doctors from different specialties for the Setúbal Hospital Center and launch the international competition for the expansion works, announced today the Deputy Secretary of State and Health.

António Lacerda Sales explained that the international tender for the expansion of the hospital unit will be launched during the first half of October and the work “will be completed in 2023”.
On the sidelines of the signing of the cooperation agreement between INEM, the Portuguese Firemen League and the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, the secretary of state was asked about the situation at the Setúbal Hospital Center, after the dismissal of the clinical director, who justified the decision with the hospital’s lack of conditions.
The government official told journalists that the Government is “following very closely” the situation and “meeting the demands, within the legal framework in force”. “Regarding the issue of human resources, I have already made some orders today. We are, within what the current legal frameworks are, to meet these demands, recruiting more specialist doctors for certain specialties”, he said.
António Lacerda Sales stated that 10 doctors will be recruited for three or four different specialties. Last Thursday, the clinical director of the Centro Hospitalar de Setúbal, Nuno Fachada, resigned from the position, justifying the decision with the hospital’s lack of conditions, including the “situation of rupture and worsening in medical, obstetric, EEMI emergencies [Intra-Hospital Medical Emergency Team]”, as well as “difficulties in other scales such as pediatric, surgical, via green stroke, internal emergencies, etc”.
