ModaLisboa : 57th edition starts on Thursday with public in fashion shows

ModaLisboa returns this week for the 57th edition, with the presentation of the collections of 34 fashion ‘designers’ to happen again with the presence of the public, after a fully digital edition in March.

Between Thursday and Sunday, at Estufa Fria, in Capitólio, but also in exclusively digital format, there will be 21 presentations of national brands and creators, without associated station, as in previous editions.

The 54th edition took place in early March 2020, when the first two cases of infection by the new coronavirus in Portugal had already been confirmed and a few days before the state of emergency due to the covid-19 pandemic was declared. In the former General Workshops of Uniforms and Equipment, in Campo de Santa Clara, the organization created an isolation room and several bottles of ‘alcohol gel’ were spread throughout the area.

In October of last year, with the country already experiencing its first ‘deconfinement’, the 55th edition took place “totally outdoors”, in Parque Eduardo VII and with very little attendance, wider backstage and a strong digital presence.

In April of this year, the 56th edition, initially scheduled for March and postponed by indication of the Directorate-General for Health, turned out to be “entirely digital”.

The 57th edition, which starts on Thursday, will have “already the presence of the public, in the order of 180/200 people [by fashion show]” and some exclusively digital presentations, “by the ‘designers’ option”.

Among the brands and creators that present collections in this edition are Luís Buchinho, Nuno Gama, Constança Entrudo, Carlos Gil, Ricardo Preto, Buzinha, Gonçalo Peixoto, Luís Carvalho, Nuno Baltazar, Cravo Studios, Béhen and Fora de Jogo.
In addition, the collections of the ten participants of Sangue Novo will also be presented, a contest aimed at finalists of higher education courses in Fashion Design from national and international schools and young designers at the beginning of their careers. Amor de la Calle, Anvi, Carolina Costa, Filipe Cerejo, Ivan Hunga Garcia, Maria Clara, Maria Curado, Reimão, Sousa and Veehana will compete for five places in the final of the contest, taking place in March 2022.
The five finalists will each receive a support of one thousand euros to create a new collection, to be presented at the 58th edition of ModaLisboa, in which the winners of this edition of Sangue Novo will be known.
In addition to the fashion shows, ModaLisboa includes a parallel program, which includes “conversations and workshops exclusively in person, without ‘livestream’, and others exclusively digital, training and open to everyone”, whose calendar and more information can be consulted online .
